Do you think it's worth it (in terms of money, time, & energy) to become a professor?
I'm aware that you must have a PhD to become a professor. Getting a PhD must be expensive in terms of time and money; does the job "pay you back" (in terms of money, enjoyment, etc)? Submitted February 27, 2017 at 09:15AM by mistixs via reddit http://ift.tt/2lpZVFg

UT Media Studies
I was wondering if anyone knew about the University of Texas' Media Studies Phd? If anyone has gone through the program, has friends there, or has an understanding of its reputation? I'm considering applying and I just wanted to see if anyone had any info. Thanks! Submitted February 26, 2017 at 12:40AM by chairhats via reddit http://ift.tt/2mqnD5a
How do students get glowing rec letters at top universities?
If all of your peers are just as intelligent/successful as you (if not more), and your professors are the best in the world (therefore have the highest standard of excellence), how can you expect to get a really good rec letter from professors? Usually your goal (not necessarily your goal for your relationship with the prof) for a rec letter is for the writer to say "X is in the top 1% of undergrads I mentored for research". How can a prof say that when all of your peers are just as competent as you? Submitted February 24, 2017 at 10:07AM by satori919 via reddit http://ift.tt/2mjJvPG

Grad school admissions: Professor vs Committee/Department
If you already have a relationship with a professor and they are sure that they want you as a grad student, is it fairly certain that you'll gain admission to their school when the time comes? Is it normal for a professor to want a student but for some reason they got rejected by the school? Submitted February 21, 2017 at 10:52PM by mistermister99 via reddit http://ift.tt/2kJ476N
Doctoral degree in design, chances of getting good funding?
For a doctoral degree in design, what are the chances that you will get good funding? I know this depends on the institution and the applicants statistics but just overall, are grad school generous in terms of providing a good funding(by good funding, I mean tuition waiver and stipend) for doctoral in design?
