Hi all, so my tutor is assigned to mark assignments and provide comments on my project work, with end project finishing August.
Through her comments and replies for the last months, I have the general feeling of a negative tone, edging on being patronizing. This comes out in emails and comments, 'You seem to have given some thought to doing etc. I would rather expect that you etc". She responded to news of a family bereavement affecting my work with "Sorry to hear that but do you really think you can get the work done?".
I had a feeling that my first assignment would be marked critically - it was. The negatives were talked about in great detail and positives glanced over. Not wanting to risk my future 3 assignments and end academic project marked like this and to the negative communication, I requested to change tutor.
The administration say they will talk to me in a phone conversation regarding the tutor change request. They told me to ask my tutor about her marking of the assignment, which I did extremely politely and in a non-accusatory way. Received a sharply toned reply saying my questions were not very specific, and that she could have raised more comments about my tutorial attendance (3 AM online for me via distance learning in another country, I watch the recordings), how my project plan was not in the required format and did not list enough activities, both points I disagree upon.
The risk now is that since the tutor knows now that I have requested to change her, and also questioned her marking, the relationship is worsened and I fear that my future assignments and end project will be marked unfairly down. The grades are critical to getting my degree.
How can I communicate in a phone call to the admin that changing my tutor would be a good thing?
