Masters or PHD?..and where?
Background: I'm in my junior year of college in biomedical engineering. I'm pretty set on the idea of continuing my education after I graduate, but I don't know which path is right for me. I love learning, and am not afraid to work hard etc so that isn't the problem, I just don't know if I'd prefer to go into industry after my master's degree and start earning, or if the low income of a PhD would be worth it. Anyone got any advice? Additionally, am I better to stay at my home uni where the masters course doesn't seem fantastic, but will probably provide more contacts if I go into industry as this is the city where I would be likely to settle down eventually. I'm 16 years old and I want to do research in neuroscience and genetics, my two greatest passions. I've looked into my options and I think academia is the best fit dor me. Why could I be wrong about this?

Adjunct appointment decision delay?
I applied for adjunct non-teaching non-compensated status where I got my PhD mainly to serve on advising committees with my advisor. (I have a nonacademic position in the field and decades of experience). It has been more than 12 months and I have heard nothing. I feel insulted and embarrassed - is it that hard a decision? Are my qualifications that questionable? Im considering withdrawing my application to preserve some dignity. Any insight or suggestions on what i should do are welcome. What is the best way to move to a new area of academia within the same broad field?
Apologies if this is the wrong place to post. I was wondering if anyone had any experience or could offer advice about potentially transitioning to a relatively new area of research within the same broad field? For instance, moving from neuroscience of memory to neuroscience of speech. This is assuming you have some publications in the former, and no publications in the area latter area, no supervisory experience and no grants. I am thinking of applying for grant in the second area, but am worried about how review panels weight track records in the area and such. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Training opportunities for Research Administration
Hi! I've just changed careers and find myself in a research administration position, writing and negotiating research agreements (MTAs, CDAs, DUAs, etc.). I was wondering if anyone here knows of any good training (online or in person) for a somewhat inexperienced negotiator such as myself. Thanks! Looking for software/program suggestions...
Hey everyone. Wondering if anybody has suggestions on a digital solution to an analog problem that will help me formulate what I write. I'm looking for a (preferably free) drawing-based program that will allow me to zoom in and out of a canvas where I can freely organize thoughts/bits of research. I'm not a particularly tech-y or design-y person, but I figured this might be the place to ask. I'm looking for a digital solution to an analog problem. Broadly speaking, I'm looking for a preferably free, likely drawing-based program that will allow me to zoom in and out of a canvas where I can keep 'thought blocks' together. I find it very beneficial when writing up projects to be able to keep things together visually. If I had the space, I'd have a big open kitchen table, with different 'bits,' whether they be authors, quotations, concepts, facts/figures, on note cards and I'd be able to move them around the big board, place them next to each other, rearrange them, in order to help me figure out how to narrate what I'm working on. Found an article that slides easily into a literature review? Make the card, place it in between, authors D and E. That sort of thing. I don't have the physical space available, so I'm looking for an easy-ish digital way to work this kind of tableau smoothly. I know it's sort of random, but any thoughts would be appreciated. Author dashboard status "Awaiting reviewer selection"?
The previous status was "Awaiting allocation of AE". Can I assume my manuscript is going out to peer review!? This is my second choice of journal and it was desk rejected at the first so this would be one step better! :) Submitted September 27, 2018 at 11:25AM by AlternativeOpinion1 via reddit https://ift.tt/2xHZoql |
