Overpaid my wife's tuition for spring semester. What can I do to get the refund.
Hi Everybody. I am a grad student in a university in texas. My wife recently started her graduate studies in the same university. Both of us are out of state students. However, I am a TA. SO my out of state tuition is waived. However my wife is not a TA and we paid her out of state tuition for spring semester. yesterday we got to know that she is also eligible for out of state tuition waiver. I did some research and it seems it is right. I should have applied for out of state tuition waiver at the beginning of the spring semester. My question is where do I begin this process? I am thinking about going to Student Business Office tomorrow, but that office is well known for running students around. I am terribly sorry if I am not giving enough information or if I am in the wrong sub. I have no idea what to do and where to begin. Have somebody been in this situation before. Thoughts on visible tattoos in the world of academia
If you look at my username, it's obvious where I stand; however, I was curious on other people's thoughts about having visible tattoos while working in the world of academia. I am a PhD student with several tattoos, but I'm conservative about them and keep them covered. Almost everyone in my PhD cohort has tattoos as well. So do several of my professors. I was just curious on what everyone's thoughts were about tattoos in the world of academia, whether it be in research or as a professor. Back in the day, tattoos were basically a death sentence for professional careers. Within the past 5 years or so, I've seen a dramatic mindset change when it comes to tattoos in professional positions. Not to mention almost everyone between the ages of 20-30 now a days has at least one tattoo. Open to hear all opinions, even if they are not in line with mine. :) Submitted May 29, 2017 at 11:54PM by TheBlondeWithTheTats via reddit http://ift.tt/2rPhJQM
Quote from Peter F. Drucker. How to site?
Hello! I hope I'm posting this in the right subreddit. I have a well-known quote from Peter F. Drucker "You can't manage knowledge … Knowledge is between two ears and only between two ears.». The problem here is that I don't know how to reference this on my thesis since this is an oral quote. Either on the reference list or in the text. I just have it like this now: A well-known quote from Peter F. Drucker discusses how knowledge can't be managed: «You can't manage knowledge … Knowledge is between two ears and only between two ears.». Any ideas? What does "effort" mean in respect to salary?
Hello all! I just received a postdoctoral fellowship, which will provide me salary for two years. The grant states that this project must be 90% of my effort. I'm currently funded by my mentor's grant, but once the funding for this award starts will only 10% of my salary be able to come from my mentor? How can I use this grant to leverage for a pay increase? Submitted May 27, 2017 at 03:36PM by dtiphd via reddit http://ift.tt/2rJs6pj
UCLA Graduate Rec Letter Review Process
A couple months ago I asked about how students are meant to stand out to PI's for their rec letters. One of the commenters was from UCLA and gave a really thorough description of how their department's adcom reviewed rec letters. Unfortunately, that comment was deleted. If that user still browses r/academia, I was hoping they could DM me this information. The previous post that I am referring to is here: http://ift.tt/2s03DJA I really appreciate this, long lost redditor!! Submitted May 27, 2017 at 04:25AM by satori919 via reddit http://ift.tt/2rqJY8F

PhD application with taught Masters but no Undergrad in field?
I am a business undergrad but did a 1 year conversion degree in CS and am now working as a Sales Engineer for a large tech company. I am considering beginning an online taught masters in CS this year, specializing in Machine Learning from Georgia Tech. If I did some independent research/helped as a Research Assistant along with a strong GRE and a good grade in the MSc. would that make for a strong PhD application even without a STEM undergrad degree?
